https://yoocalepidemiologist.substack.com/p/h5n1-update-we-have-to-do-better - H5N1 update: We have to do better, faster

Excerpt..

The risk to the public is low, but the more the virus spreads, the more chances it has to mutate and jump species to spread among humans. Given H5N1’s high mortality rate, we don’t want this to happen.

This outbreak is concerning; unfortunately, communication and data transparency have been profoundly lacking. We must do better and faster — repeating the same communication mistakes that fueled confusion, distrust, and misinformation during Covid-19 is inexcusable.

If my memory is correct it’s 40%-80% fatal, while covid was a mere 1.5% -2%. Though the few human cases have been mild disease, would it stay less  dangerous or ramp up with each mutation?  We will have to see.

You've hit the nail on the head there Pixie about mistrust from the Covid fiasco. I read this morning that 33% of people believe that the Covid jabs are killing people (by accelerating fatal diseases) and that a quarter of all people who took the jabs, regret doing so.

I think they're going to have a very hard time getting people to roll up their sleeves for any future fast tracked jabs. There's a reason why vaccinations take 12 years to get to market.

I think we are facing a multi-disease global issue...Vaccines may NOT do the job...
Non Pharma Interventions can be "easy to use"; some basics

-Ventilation lowers loads of diseases (both viral, bacterial)
-Limiting social contacts...
-Stay informed...there is still info on the internet !

Of course masks/eyeprotection may be wise ! Certainly farm workers with H5N1 infected cattle/poultry need that kind of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)...

CoViD is on the rise again in many places. But the "info" is much less clear...https://www.rivm.nl/en/coronavirus-covid-19/current/weekly-update

Waste water viral parts for CoViD are up -again- in NL. They were record high december 2023...However excess deaths/hospital cases did not show extremes...

In NL over 100,000 people have Long CoViD... https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps - https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps or https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps keeps showing excess deaths in Europe for 0-14 y/o...and they did NOT get CoViD vaccines !

KiwiMum-I think we did not get all the info on side effects of m-RNA/CoViD vaccines...
A concern has to be vaccines/antivirals may result in CoViD mutating around immunity...on the long run vaccines/anti virals may make CoViD a longer lasting problem ?

But-again-I am on this forum to make up my mind...not any kind of expert !
