DJ, ONE person in NL was found to be-most likely-infected with Lassa fever. He returned from West Africa. (No links yet in English)

In 2019 NL had two imported cases; https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publications-data/rapid-risk-assessment-cases-lassa-fever-netherlands-ex-sierra-leone - https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publications-data/rapid-risk-assessment-cases-lassa-fever-netherlands-ex-sierra-leone or https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publications-data/rapid-risk-assessment-cases-lassa-fever-netherlands-ex-sierra-leone ;On 20 and 24 November 2019, respectively, the Dutch public health authorities confirmed two imported cases of Lassa fever from Sierra Leone. Both were Dutch healthcare workers who worked in a rural hospital in Sierra Leone. EU/EEA travellers or EU/EEA citizens residing in Sierra Leone should be informed of the risk of exposure to Lassa virus, particularly in areas where Mastomys spp. rodents are present and during the main transmission season (roughly from November until April).

This concerns Broekpolder general practice at the Steenhouwerskwartier. A spokesperson for the Kennemerland Safety Region says that a male patient has been isolated in the building. “A special ambulance team is on the way to transport him.

“He came in with a general malaise and felt ill. That's what the doctor came to.”

Which disease the patient is infected with is currently still unclear. “He came in with a general malaise and felt ill. That's what the doctor called for.”

Many emergency services available

According to NH reporter Thomas Jak, the police are blocking the Laan van Broekpolder. “There are also a lot of fire vans and the street is lined with ribbons. Many local residents are on the street. There is no panic, everyone is calm.”

Local residents tell Jak that people still came out of the building around 7 p.m. “They were told that someone with a highly contagious disease was in the general practice

Infected man does not appear to have a tropical disease after all

The man from Heemskerk, who was quarantined after a visit to the doctor on Thursday evening due to a possible tropical illness, does not appear to have it. This is what the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) tells RTL

The 37-year-old man walked into the general practice in Heemskerk last night with complaints. Because the man had been in a West African country and had symptoms that may be related to a tropical illness, he was quarantined and taken to hospital.

Three health center employees and two ambulance workers had also come into contact with the man, but were allowed to return home the same evening.

DJ, Malaria is more widespread then only tropics...
