After the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel on 7 October, antisemitism and anti-Jewish hate crimes around the world increased significantly.[269][270][271] Multiple universities and university officials have been accused of systemic antisemitism.[272][273][274] On 1 May 2024, the United States House of Representatives voted 320-91 in favour of adopting a bill enshrining the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism into law.[275] The bill was opposed by some who claimed it conflated criticism of Israel with antisemitism, while Jewish advocacy groups like the American Jewish Committee and World Jewish Congress generally supported it in response to the increase in antisemitic incidents on university campuses.[276][277] An open letter by 1,200 Jewish professors opposed the proposal DJ, A lot of the protests against the USrael genocide in Gaza are (in part) organized by Jewish groups.
