DJ, my (far from perfect, non-expert) view; When Russia moved into UKraine in february 2022 it did the unexpected move...The "west" believed Russia would NOT intervene when UKraine (and NATO) forces would "clean up" Donetsk/Luhansk-Eastern UKraine...
The "west" expected NATO could include UKraine...very likely NATO forces would be "invited" (like Assad in Syria invited Russia, Iran) to "restore order"...

Well-the west did get it wrong...Putin/Russia did know zelenski was elected to get UKraine OUT of conflict-not further into a war...So in april 2022-Istanbul-Türkiye the "Special Military Operation/SMO" -as Russia expected-would end...Then bojo/biden showed up and showed "NATO would support UKraine"...

US/USrael may welcome a "limited conflict" between India and Pakistan. Since such a conflict would "slow down/break up" BRICS+ US/USrael may push for such a war...ignoring the very major risks...

For the US it is ESSENTIAL other countries pay for US$/debts...The US$ as a global currency is the back bone of US as the "only super power"...(idea).

The problem however is starting a conflict may not be that hard-controlling it may be more complex...
