So nearly 10% of recently submitted #H5N1 sequences show PB2 E627K or PB2 D701N - markers for mammalian (i.e. human) adaptation. 

These samples were taken from cows, chickens, cats, and a skunk across two genotypes (B3.13 and D1.1). 

PB2 D701N used to be pretty rare. PB2 E627K has been commonly found in human clusters of #H5N1.

I would expect that the percentage of samples containing these adaptive mutations will only increase with the fall/winter migration and the unmitigated spread of the virus.
