   Some Russian scholars put the total number of losses in the war, both civilian and military, at over 40 million
DJ, Maybe 1-in-4/1-in-5 Soviet citizen/military got killed between september 1939 (invasion of Poland, war with Finland) and august 1945 (invasion of Japan (Sachalin-plans for Hokkaido). 
From the Russian perspective there was an agreement on NATO not moving one inch east after 1990/91...NATO did (also) break this deal...

Russia may have seen by now close to 100,000 deaths in its war with UKraine...UKraine losses may be getting to 1 million...(UKraine population around 2020 around 40 million=western "help" killing 2,5% of UKraine population-with 50% of the UKraine population leaving UKraine...

Western "media/politics" go for UKraine losses of 40,000 and Russian economy at breaking point...Both points of view are insane !

Russia moved to the #4 position in the GDP-PPP list (IMF, World Bank even CIA). Russian trade shifted away from the west to the south and east-Asia...

So..."talks" may be welcome. The western basis for these talks are crazy...It will increase BRICS+ growth and further de-$-ization...Even more 10%-west against 90% rest of the globe...in a neo-colonial war agenda of that west...

Of course "the rest" will react ! Russia and Iran may increase cooperation with both Türkiye and Arab countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt de facto in BRICS+) to create stability in West Asia. If need be that means "solving the NATO made proxy USrael".
