   Neutral countries can build bridges. Can help "partners in conflict with eachother" to find a way out...
For that matter Switzerland, Austria now do have a major role to play. It is very welcome also the Vatican does see a role...

In lots of conflicts finding an "exit strategy" is a major problem. 

In my view the major conflict now is BRICS+ ending 500 years of western domination.

A main reason why "the west" could "rule the world" was military superiority. That is now over...

Russia intervened in Syria to keep its ally Assad in power. It moved into Ukraine to stop NATO expanding further east-with US (nuclear) weapons/bases close to Russia. 

The western idea was it would be "easy/doable" to control Russia via both sanctions and military action.  Even to the surprise of Russia this turned out to be incorrect. 

In 2014 the EU went for sanctions against Russia. Russia did increase production of sanctioned goods themselves and import from non-EU countries like Türkiye, India, China.

After the start of the Russian "Special Military Operation/SMO" in 2022 the "west" went "full sanctions" against Russia....only to find out Russia itself is "to big to sanction" and Russia could do deals with other countries also under western sanctions...

So...the west may have learned "peak sanctions" do exist.
