Author Summary
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a paramyxovirus that causes severe lower respiratory tract infections. HMPV infection is initiated by the viral surface fusion (F) glycoprotein. HMPV F attaches to cellular receptors, including RGD-binding integrins, and catalyzes virus membrane fusion with cellular membranes during virus entry. Although most paramyxoviruses enter cells by coupling receptor binding to membrane fusion at the cell surface, the entry mechanism for HMPV is largely uncharacterized. 
In this study, we sought to determine the cellular site of HMPV fusion. We show that HMPV particles are internalized by clathrin-mediated endocytosis and fuse with endosomal membranes. 
Furthermore, HMPV engages RGD-binding integrins for endosomal trafficking and full virus membrane fusion with intracellular membranes, suggesting that HMPV uses integrins to facilitate movement into target cells rather than as a trigger for fusion at the cell surface. 
Inhibition of endosomal acidification had only a modest strain-specific effect, suggesting that low pH exposure is not required for HMPV fusion. 
These results expand knowledge of mechanisms of HMPV entry and suggest new potential therapeutic interventions against this medically important virus.
DJ, What I understand of it is blocking the virus getting into the cell can be done by this (already existing) medication.

Chlorpromazine (CPZ), marketed under the brand names Thorazine and Largactil among others, is an antipsychotic medication.^[6] It is primarily used to treat psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia.^[6] Other uses include the treatment of bipolar disorder, severe behavioral problems in children including those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, nausea and vomiting, anxiety before surgery, and hiccups that do not improve following other measures.^[6] It can be given orally (by mouth), by intramuscular injection (injection into a muscle), or intravenously (injection into a vein).^[6]

DJ, China has the largest pharma production capacity in the world...If this drug can control the HMPV outbreak it would be good news...Maybe it can even do more...limit other diseases ???
