 "Ukraine Could Become Trump's Vietnam"

Former Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon warned in an interview with Politico that the war in Ukraine could become a major political liability for Donald Trump if he fails to end it quickly, potentially dragging the U.S. deeper into the conflict.

"If we're not careful, this could turn into Trump's Vietnam. That’s exactly what happened with Richard Nixon. He ended up owning the war, and it went down in history as his war, not Lyndon Johnson's (the president who escalated U.S. involvement in Vietnam)," Bannon said.

Bannon argued that Trump needs to immediately signal to Zelensky that "there’s a new sheriff in town" and that the war must come to an end. He also called for cutting military aid to Ukraine, warning of a potential trap set by "an unlikely alliance of the U.S. defense industry, Europeans, and even some of Bannon's former allies," including Keith Kellogg, a former special representative for Ukraine.

Bannon criticized Kellogg’s suggestion to pressure Russia into negotiations by threatening to increase military aid to Ukraine, calling it a strategy that could escalate U.S. involvement in what he considers an unwinnable conflict.

He concluded that the war in Ukraine does not serve U.S. national interests and suggested that Trump should pledge in his inaugural address to bring it to a swift end.
