DJ,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denialism or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denialism ;

In the psychology of human behaviordenialism is a person's choice to deny reality as a way to avoid believing in a psychologically uncomfortable truth.[1] Denialism is an essentially irrational action that withholds the validation of a historical experience or event when a person refuses to accept an empirically verifiable reality.[2]

In the sciences, denialism is the rejection of basic facts and concepts that are undisputed, well-supported parts of the scientific consensus on a subject, in favor of ideas that are radical, controversial, or fabricated.[3]

The terms Holocaust denial and AIDS denialism describe the denial of the facts and the reality of the subject matters,[4] and the term climate change denial describes denial of the scientific consensus that the climate change of planet Earth is a real and occurring event primarily caused in geologically recent times by human activity.[5]

The forms of denialism present the common feature of the person rejecting overwhelming evidence and trying to generate political controversy in attempts to deny the existence of consensus.[6][7]

The motivations and causes of denialism include religion, self-interest (economic, political, or financial), and defence mechanisms meant to protect the psyche of the denialist against mentally disturbing facts and ideas; such disturbance is called cognitive dissonance in psychology terms.[8][9]

For this (supposed to be a) forum it would be welcome if I could put this item in "general discussion"...however "politics" are very active in denying that many -often related- problems I decided to put it in "latest news"...

In private conversations, many climate scientists express far greater concern at the progression and consequences of global warming than they do in public.

A number of prominent climate scientists representing the scientific consensus on climate change, as documented by the IPCC, have tried their best to convey the message in public forums, but were mostly shunned by conservative media. At the same time many climate scientists tend to regard the IPCC-based climate consensus as too optimistic. An article titled When the End of Human Civilization Is Your Day Job (Richardson, 2015) states … “Among many climate scientists, gloom has set in. Things are worse than we think, but they can’t really talk about it … Climate scientists have been so distracted and intimidated by the relentless campaign against them that they tend to avoid any statements that might get them labelled “alarmists”, instead retreating into a world of charts and data.“

As stated by Noam Chomsky: “It’s interesting that these public climate debates leave out almost entirely a third part of the debate, namely a very substantial number of scientists, competent scientists, who think that the scientific consensus is much too optimistic. A group of scientists at MIT came out with a report about a year ago describing what they called the most comprehensive modelling of the climate that had ever been done.

Their conclusion, which was unreported in public media as far as I know, was that the major scientific consensus of the international commission is just way off, it’s much too optimistic … their own conclusion was that unless we terminate use of fossil fuels almost immediately, it’s finished. We’ll never be able to overcome the consequences. That’s avoided in the debate.”

DJ, Of course "politics" de-fund science giving unwelcome results...

"Politics should stay out of science"-so science has to give politics the results they want...

More bad news on #H5N1 #Q591R on PB2 has established itself in a lineage in South Dakota beginning in a May sample. Up to 13 descendants, all from cattle in South Dakota. Some reading suggests Q591R almost as bad as dreaded E627K: https://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4249088/ Seems bad. Experts?

In this paper author suggests Q591R as single mutant might have replication advantage in humans over single E627K "Q591R alone...produced a replication advantage for H5N1 virus polymerase during human cell infection"

DJ, How to deal with H5N1 developing towards human-to-human spread ?

-Do NOT test...so "there are no known cases"...
-Scientists reporting bad news should not even get cleaning jobs...defund science!
-Stress the importance of economy !

DJ-Without an economy there would NOT be healthcare, science, education...however if "only money matters" one chooses to go blind for risks...

If there may have been over 4 billion human CoViD infections since 2019 and 10% would see long term illness then worldwide 400 million people have long term healthissues...

Blame the victims ! Those lazy bastards-laying in bed all day !

"The best doctors can not find anything wrong"..."It is all in their mind"..."They are after a political person/job"....

Of course it is well known that there is something as "Post Viral Syndrome"
https://www.bmj.com/content/378/bmj.o2188 or https://www.bmj.com/content/378/bmj.o2188 ;

The global burden of long covid has put a spotlight on the long neglected mystery of postviral syndromes. Brian Owens asks what’s changing

Long covid really shouldn’t have been a surprise, says Vett Lloyd, a biologist at Mount Allison University in Sackville, Canada. “When the pandemic started, the general assumption was that there were two possible outcomes to an infection—you’d either get better or die,” she says.

But there’s a possible third outcome. It’s long been known that a number of disease causing pathogens—some viral and some bacterial—are associated with ongoing post-infection symptoms in a significant minority of patients.

“There was no real reason to think SARS-CoV-2 should be any different than the original SARS, which also caused post-infection syndromes,” says Lloyd. She is one of many researchers who hope that the attention and funding directed towards long covid will help to shed light on how and why other infections can lead to persistent and sometimes debilitating symptoms.

DJ...hey...that does cost a lot of money !
Political donors do NOT want to pay tax !

So-another problem to be denied ! Who needs "science" anyway !

NATO-proxy "USrael" killed close to 10% of the Palestinians in Gaza...IN NATO proxy UKraine by now 2% of the population-untrained fighters-did die...Most UKraine citizens want peace...were NEVER waiting for NATO or EU membership...

Still both NATO and EU keep pushing..."Defending democrazy" where every $,£ or € counts !

War is an investment !

So...climate collapse ? We have to fight Russia !
Pandemics ? Blame China..."lab-leak non-sense" !

Any criticism on "Israel"=antisemitism...even if people identifying themselves as Jewish criticize "Israel"...Fight Iran !

NATO and EU insanity may be linked to their total failure on both climate and the pandemics that are a result of climate collapse !

"Neo-liberal" "best government is no government" insanity is destroying the planet...

If one thinks US politics "best presidential candidates" are either trump or biden you have a very dark idea of the US !

Again..."denialism" seems to be going for "maximum profits" for a very small group...even if it destroys the planet !
