DJ, Let me be honest...I did not expect "us" to survive 2024...So maybe I am over-pessimistic.

The new year is now just two weeks away...On january 20 trump will start his second term as US president...

Since biden showed "confrontation" is the only word he knows it may be hard for trump to do even worse...Remarks on Canada (trudeau "governor") and Greenland (trump wants to buy it from Denmark) may indicate "MAGA" could translate in trump seeking Canada, Greenland to become part of the USA ????

It would be historical...The last expansion that lasted goes back to around 1900-US-Spanish war...(Peurto Rico/Hawaii). The Panama-canal zone, Philippines US occupation is over...

The UK as a global power is also over...One of the reasons "for Canada" was the UK. In many ways after 1776 Canada remained a US colony-while the US did break away...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_evolution_of_the_United_States or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_evolution_of_the_United_States

The people financing trump want Canada/Greenland oil, gas, minerals...In their view the 335 million US citizens (<4% of global population) can put economic/diplomatic pressure on Canada, DK (and EU, UK)...

The outcome of biden confrontation insanity is both NATO and EU are now much weaker then they were in 2020...US debts are now at extreme levels...

To protect the US$, avoid losing wars, the US has to find other ways...
----
A "greater USrael" dominating West Asia may be in the US interest. "Weakening Russia" via UKraine, Georgia did not work...so "if the EU/UK" want to continue that war....

BRICS+ will keep de$-izing...It may be the "10% west" still going for the US$ against a 90% "rest of the world"...

US democrats want war with Russia, US democrats want war with China...However trump did meet Kim...even did cross the North Korea border...

If "any thinking is involved" Japan should NOT be a US tool in Asia...Most of Asia hates Japan because of World War Two war crimes/genocide...

So "Korea", India, Pakistan may be important diplomacy targets for the US...

I do not expect trump to care much for UK/EU...so EU/UK "leaders" may have to start developing their own strategy...could maybe show some interest in the people they are supposed to work for/represent...Most Europeans have had it with the present "politics"...
------
Both climate and pandemics were ignored-got much worse in 2024...This year-2024- was the hottest ever...coming year 2025 will be even more hot...

H5N1 "had an ally with biden"...

DJ-Maybe 2025 could bring some reduction in the war risks...Very likely both climate and pandemic problems have now become that bad it may be impossible to contain.

Economic costs of Long CoViD, climate disasters, related matters, interest on debts, high energy/food costs will become a "very major-if not impossible" economic burden...

The west may see the start of economic depression in 2025...

DJ, There is NO shortage of humans on this planet...When I look how "politics" is dealing with human lives I only find it disgusting...

"Living with "the virus", climate collapse...Wars killing 1,000+ people per day...". The idea seems to be most people can be replaced and/or are an economic burden...

Excess deaths in general still high. Still global population keeps growing however life expectency may stop increasing even decrease in some countries.

Better educated women tend to have no/less children. The longer term trend may point to a decrease of human (over)population.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_population#/media/File:World_Population_Prospects.svg or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_population#/media/File:World_Population_Prospects.svg

DJ-Human population is expected to "peak" in the coming years/decades then decrease...

Will 2025 be a breaking point ?

Most people-by far-live in Asia. India did take over China in population-both 1,4 billion+. Both countries also expect economic growth...https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/ or https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/

However Asia can be hit very hard by climate distaters, pandemics and as a result famines, social unrest, (civil) wars, social collapse.

https://www.britannica.com/list/6-deadliest-earthquakes or https://www.britannica.com/list/6-deadliest-earthquakes in recent past may have claimed over 100,000 deaths...

The Haiti earthquake of 2010 devastated the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, killing an estimated 300,000 people and leaving an estimated 1,500,000 survivors homeless.
-
The Tangshan earthquake of 1976, also called the Great Tangshan Earthquake, occurred on July 28, 1976, with a magnitude of 7.5, and nearly razed the Chinese coal-mining and industrial city of Tangshan, located about 68 miles (110 km) east of Beijing. The death toll, thought to be one of the largest in recorded history, was officially reported as 242,000 persons, but it may have been as high as 655,000.

DJ, Floods can kill millions...

So far CoViD-since 2019- may have claimed 40 million lives...The Spanish H1N1 Flu between 1917 and 1923 may have killed 1-in-20 of the global population...With India, Java/Dutch East Indies each over 1 million...

The outlook for 2025 is bad.

Climate collapse is more floods, more earthquakes and more pandemics...

https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/world-population-by-year/ or https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/world-population-by-year/

In 1972 population growth did go under 2%, 1994 it was 1,5%, in 2020 it did go under 1%. In 2022 0,84% growth so far was the lowest global human population growth...An increase of 67 million people. In 2024 the expected growth is +70 million...

So to see 2025 global population DEcrease would need to see a decrease in births, increase in deaths...

https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/world-population-projections/ or https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/world-population-projections/

has 2029 growth under 0,8%, 2041 0,6%, 2047 0,5% and after 2084 decreasing...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catastrophism or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catastrophism ; in which the scientific consensus accepts that some catastrophic events occurred in the geologic past, but regards these as explicable as extreme examples of natural processes which can occur.

DJ, High speed changes will increase with climate collapse.

Global non-nuclear wars may take time to kill millions. Planned genocides a.o. on Palestinians, Kurds may take less time-organized mass murder kills faster...certainly when NATO, USrael, Türkiye 'do their best"....

We do see an increase of floods, earthquakes and following health crises killing "tens-of-thousends"-we will see several of these events. However the total deaths of "natural disasters" may stay under 1 million.

So -if 2025 has to become a turning point in human population growth- it may have to come from pandemics. (Chances for nuclear war, asteroide hitting Earth, may see all of us gone...).

Can we contain diseases ? Yes-one problem is we do not contain them...

Another problem may be "we miss" a lot of info/science. Are cancers virus related ? How much (long) CoViD cases will see hearth/brain problems killing humans ?

So how much "killing damage" is allready spreading a.o. via CoViD, obesity ?

https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/excess-mortality-p-scores-average-baseline?country=USA~GBR~NLD~DEU~FRA~JPN~RUS~BRA or https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/excess-mortality-p-scores-average-baseline?country=USA~GBR~NLD~DEU~FRA~JPN~RUS~BRA

DJ-Only a few countries may see excess deaths under the long term average.

Most Spanish Flu deaths https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_flu#Mortality or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_flu#Mortality in Europe were in 18 months 1918-1920. However other parts of the globe may have seen higher number of deaths later on...

A global multi-disease pandemic in 2025 will very likely spread high speed. H5N1 is most linked to wild birds...wild mammals also out of human control.

Global travel, limited vaccines, not using masks/PPE do further increase risk.

DJ-Chances of 2025 bringing a global major healthcrisis killing 1%+ of the global population  (GP)(82 million people)  are present-very likely still limited.

Chances of wars killing !% of GP is smaller-however so far we have NEVER been this close to nuclear war in human history...

Earthquakes, extreme storms, floodings COMBINED are -so far- not likely to kill over 1% GP.
